Important Contact Information
We’ll be conducting our conversation through RINGR. You can use your phone or computer (as long as it is running Firefox or Chrome)
- You can download the app by following the link in your invitation email or through Google Play or the iPhone Store. It’s free. For easy to follow instructions, visit:
- A few notes on using RINGR
- The quality of your internet connection does matter. In order of descending preference, the best way to record is:
- 1. The browser app with a direct, wired internet connection
- 2. The mobile phone app with a wifi connection
- 3. The browser app with a wifi connection
- 4. The mobile phone app over your normal network
- If you are using your phone, please Turn on Do Not Disturb
- Activating the DO NOT DISTURB feature on your phone will keep your RINGR conversation going even if someone tries to call you in the middle of it.
- Be sure that your device is set to always silence calls and to allow calls from no one. Using the default settings will not protect against interruptions and could interfere with the RINGR call.
- OR…
- Turn on Airplane Mode
- Then, ensure that “Wi-Fi” is also switched on. This will allow you to record a RINGR conversation on a wireless network without worry of being interrupted by a cellular call. Just be sure to remember to turn Airplane Mode “off” when you’re done.

Best Practices during our recording
Please use headphones so that we don’t get feedback.
Don’t stress! Just relax and have a quiet space to participate from. Think of this as a conversation between you and D. Short answers are OK – if you think of answer a question in 5 or 6 sentences, you’ll probably be right on target.
Try to keep our conversation relatively time-agnostic as well, i.e. avoid saying “today, this afternoon, this morning, coming up next week”. That will give our call more shelf-life and I can still add in promotional material in the show notes.
Some things to think about below
- Having water at hand is very helpful. If you want to enjoy some tea, coffee, or something stronger, by all means! It is called BEER, beats, and business, after all. I would suggest, though, that you don’t imbibe much before we start (you don’t want to have to rush to the bathroom in the middle).
- I will do some light editing of the call, so don’t worry if there’s an overly long break or anything, I can fix it in post.
- Do feel free to pause before you answer a question. It might not sound natural to you but it will to the listener.
- Put your cellphone on silent. The only person who will have their phone ring and muck things up is me. 😉
- Think about the noises around you – you may not normally recognize them:
- Squeaky chairs
- Barking dogs (don’t get me started on Cupcake in the apartment next door) and mewing cats and other animals
- Open windows and household occupants
- Device ringers and computer sounds
- If you are using a mic that is in your laptop – it is best practice to wear headphones so as not to generate an echo.
- If you want to test your audio set up before the call, email D. and we can do a quick test.
